Noémie wasn't always Nóemie, and yet - in some ways, she always was.
Born into a poor family in Paris, her biggest dream was always to become a nurse, but her parents couldn't afford her education. The Serving Sisters, a Catholic order of nuns dedicated to nursing, was her way into medical training without needing to pay a single franc.
Not particularly religious, she was trained two-fold while studying with the sisters, both in medical assistance and in Catholic doctrine. Between the age of 16 and 20, she completed her schooling in Paris and was made a novice of the order, moving into the convent house in Paris center.
Not long after, it was decided that she should use her training at a newly opened hospital wing in New York and after receiving rigorous English lessons, she was shipped off to the US. Alone and having no idea what would await her.
Now, two and a half year later, mid-1950s, she has finally begun finding her feet in New York, living at the convent house a stone's throw from the hospital along with fifteen other sisters and a Mother Superior who doesn't like her and isn't shy of showing it. She has only recently taken her vows and joined their ranks as a fully-fledged member of the order.
